As with previous updates , the Free Fire January 2023 Update (OB38 version) is surrounded by considerable excitement, which is palpable in the community. The developers released the Advanced Server weeks before the new version, which fueled player anticipation by providing a glimpse of the features.
With the update's release date just a few days away, the developers have started releasing teasers. As usual, they are also set to launch their animated talk show known as “ Speak, Free Fire! ”, highlighting the significant changes that will be inserted with the next update .

While Garena does not release the official update notes, Free Fire Mania had access to the main features that are available in the first Free Fire update in 2023. These include:
Mysterious Character (Teleportation)
The new Free Fire January 2023 update will house a mysterious character similar to past iterations. Previous versions included at least one new character, and therefore the prospects for this new character to enter the game have increased significantly.
He is armed with the Transport Dummy ability, which launches a 150 HP dummy for 5 seconds. Additionally, users have the ability to teleport to this dummy's location. New Pet Mandacaru
The Mandacaru pet is the second feature that should become available in the Free Fire January 2023 update (OB38). Its ability restores 10 EP per second after the user remains stationary for 8 seconds. However, this restore will stop after the EP 100 is restored or when they move.
As players level up this pet, the standing requirements will reduce to just 6 seconds, while all other options will remain constant. As previous updates usually included a pet, players can expect Mandacaru to be available in this first update of the year.
Battle Royale mode optimization
The gameplay of Free Fire has become a bit monotonous for the players and in order to make the gameplay engaging, the developers will bring several changes to the Battle Royale (BR) mode in the Free Fire January 2023 Update . All of them are expected to be added in the new update.
These upgrades include a unique Equipment Radar that detects nearby supplies. Additionally, a new device tab including an ice wall making system called “ Gel Mason ” will be accessible. Effective in-game communication has been a challenge in Free Fire . To solve the problem, Garena is testing several optimizations in this regard. These include, but are not limited to, faster messaging options, a drag-and-drop tag button, and more.
Additionally, more color tags are displayed for teammates, providing clarity. This should make in-game communication more accessible with the Free Fire January 2023 update .
Contra Squad Skill Improvements
To spice up Contra Squad 's gameplay, the developers implemented a character buff system in the next Free Fire update . The feature allows individuals to select an upgrade early in the match to add a layer to the gameplay.
After thorough testing, players can find these features in the Free Fire January 2023 update. The final safe zone change feature should also be part of the final release.
Other changes in the Free Fire January 2023 update
- Added the option to mark favorite clothes and skins, items will be at the top.
- Characters can be selected easier, without having to leave matches to change characters.
