Free Fire is a third-person multiplayer battle royale shooter on iOS and Android devices, although it has other modes besides the classic BR. Free Fire is actually the most downloaded mobile game in the world for three years in a row, according to Data.ai. And it makes sense, as it's easy to get into, easy to learn and play, and doesn't take a lot of time to do so. It's a pretty solid mobile shooter, especially if you just want to kill time on the bus, train or at break and don't have time for a full game of PUBG , for example.

To celebrate its 5th anniversary , Free Fire has been doing it all, including an in-game Justin Bieber show (a change of pace from last year's Las Vegas party), new content, characters, and more. Along with the anniversary celebrations is a new map, New Earth .

Overall, for Free Fire's 6th battle royale map, the developers sought to evoke a futuristic, tech-focused vibe in its design aesthetic, delivering a range of unique experiences depending on where you end up falling. Garena has given us a glimpse of some of the locations that will come with “ NeXTerra ,” including some that will feature unique gameplay opportunities.

The look of NeXTerra is definitely screaming that vibe of the future of technology, from buildings made with cold, clean steel to a world that seems to want to automate everything from shopping to farming. The various regions of the map have a distinct theme that plays a part in the whole, with some unique sports mechanics to get players out of the game and keep them stuck.

In this place is the Science Laboratory with a planetarium in the middle. This planetarium actually has low gravity, which means players will be fighting while being able to perform moon jumps, propelling them to higher heights during combat.

Galeria Deca also supports this vibe of the technological future by having its own crossing system: portals. Players can use these portals to move around the area, taking down anyone who isn't suspicious. Learning the location of these ports and where they go is essential to survive a strike here at Free Fire.

Speaking of being on the lookout, Mangrove is your old regular construction site, though unlike some other areas of NeXTerra , where players will need to be aware of destructible cover. Choosing to hide somewhere may not be worth it in the long run, though you also need to remember that just because someone hides behind a wall doesn't mean they're untouchable.

Fair Plaza is one of the dullest areas compared to the others as it doesn't have any crazy mechanics to remember. However, it does add some verticality to Free Fire, as players can move around the area on raised, interconnected platforms. The museum adds some cat-and-mouse options with its glass walls, assuming you decide to fight indoors.

In addition, there are a few more locations such as the futuristic-looking Museum and University . The new map aims to bring a change of pace to Free Fire, introducing these areas with new and interesting mechanics that change the way you approach a location. Instead of just having buildings to hide and cover, having to think about portal travel, low gravity , or what cover will be destroyed, for example, adds another element to the moment-to-moment gameplay.

This update with the new NeXTerra map arrived at Free Fire this Saturday, August 20, for Android and iOS devices.
