Free Fire x Jujutsu Kaisen has made history in the game, says Garena

By Ronny Rolim

Anyone who played Free Fire in January 2026 knows that the event with Jujutsu Kaisen was different from anything that Garena had done before. Now there is proof: Sea Limited, the parent company of Garena, released on May 12, 2026, the financial results for the first quarter — and the partnership with the anime appears as one of the biggest highlights in the history of the game.

There are over 700 million views on official content. Garena classified the event as one of the most successful IP partnerships ever conducted by Free Fire — alongside the collaboration with Naruto Shippuden, mentioned in the same report as a point of comparison.

Awakening of Jujutsu: what was the event

The event was called "Awakening of Jujutsu" and arrived in Free Fire on January 14, 2026. It wasn't just a standalone skin partnership: Garena transformed the entire game for several weeks — new map, new mechanics, new playable characters with the original voices from the anime, and even exclusive music composed for the crossover.

The composer Yoshimasa Terui — one of the names behind the anime's soundtrack — created two exclusive tracks for the event: "Awakening Path" and "Awakening Battle", played inside and outside of matches during the event period.

Free Fire x Jujutsu Kaisen: new gameplay with School of Jujutsu on the Peak map of Bermuda and the 5 techniques of the event
The School of Jujutsu was built on the Peak map of Bermuda — players could absorb Cursed Energy and unleash five different techniques during matches.

The 5 Jujutsu techniques that entered Free Fire

The central mechanic of the event was the Cursed Energy system: players could collect it by defeating opponents, find it scattered around the map, or purchase it from special vending machines. This energy unlocked five authentic techniques from the anime, available in Battle Royale and Contra Squad modes:

Technique Character Mode
Divergent Fist Yuuji Itadori Battle Royale and Contra Squad
Muryou Kuusho Satoru Gojou Battle Royale and Contra Squad
Purple Void Satoru Gojou Battle Royale and Contra Squad
Fukuma Mizushi Ryomen Sukuna Battle Royale and Contra Squad
Karekichuu Battle Royale and Contra Squad

In Battle Royale, the Muryou Kuusho and Fukuma Mizushi could be obtained in Cyber Airdrops. In Contra Squad, players could buy Cursed Energy weapons and even acquire a Level 3 Hammer — one of the Cursed Instruments of the event — after capturing a Cyber Airdrop.

Characters, skins, and free rewards

  • Satoru Gojou — with the iconic blindfolded look

In addition to the character sets, the event offered a series of free rewards from January 14 to February 9, 2026, redeemable through the event track:

The transformed map: School of Jujutsu in Peak

One of the most talked-about changes by the community was the visual transformation of the map. The Peak area in Bermuda was redesigned to become the School of Jujutsu — featuring detailed Japanese architecture, an atmosphere directly inspired by the anime, and an event interface that accompanied Itadori’s journey as he gathered allies.

As players progressed through the missions, they unlocked a special reunion scene within the game — a detail that Garena described as "the most ambitious map overhaul in Free Fire to date".

The numbers that prove the scale of the event

The Free Fire x Jujutsu Kaisen partnership, launched in January 2026, generated over 700 million views on official content and was classified by Sea Limited — the owner of Garena — as one of the most successful IP partnerships in the entire history of Free Fire, directly contributing to the best quarter of the Garena division since 2021.

Indicator Q1 2026 Annual Variation
Garena Bookings US$ 931.4 million +20.1%
Garena Revenue US$ 696.6 million +40.6%
Adjusted EBITDA US$ 573.6 million +25.2%
Quarterly Active Users 666.5 million stable
Paying Users 72.6 million +12.4%
Paying User Rate 10.9% was 9.8% in 2025
Average Spend per User US$ 1.40 was US$ 1.17 in 2025

The CEO of Sea Limited, Forrest Li, directly cited the event with Jujutsu Kaisen during the earnings conference as one of the factors for Garena's historical performance in the quarter. The previous partnership with Naruto Shippuden was mentioned in the same report as a benchmark — placing both as the most significant anime events in Free Fire's history.

What's next in upcoming partnerships

The Sea Limited report makes it clear that Garena has shifted its strategy regarding IP partnerships. The company is globalizing events that were once local — as demonstrated with Ramadan 2026, which transitioned from a regional campaign to a global event with over 120 billion impressions on social media.

With Naruto and Jujutsu Kaisen setting the standard, community expectations for the next major anime in Free Fire are high. Garena has not announced the next IP — but the production level, integrated mechanics, and financial results indicate that the bar has been raised significantly.

Keep an eye on the active FF codes — in recent partnership events, Garena released exclusive codes with themed rewards during the launch. And if you want to know how the events affect rare items in Free Fire, it's worth checking what's currently available in the game store.
