Ray, Nero, and Nikita will be nerfed on May 1st in Free Fire

Three characters will wake up weaker tomorrow — and if you use any of them in ranked matches, you need to know this now. Garena confirmed that Ray, Nero, and Nikita will be nerfed on May 1st, 2026, the date when Season 51 of the Battle Royale in Free Fire begins.

This is not an isolated adjustment: the update of the BR T51 Ranked comes with simultaneous changes in character balance and new events within the Battle Royale mode — all coming together with the season change.

Which characters will be nerfed in Free Fire on May 1st?

The three characters appear with a red arrow on the official BR T51 Ranked banner — direct confirmation from Garena regarding the adjustments on May 1st.

Garena confirmed the adjustments on the official BR T51 Ranked banner. The three characters appear with red arrows indicating power reduction. Here’s what is known about each:

  • Ray (Rafael) — joined Free Fire on April 8th, 2026, and is already receiving a nerf in the first season change. Even though he was launched less than a month ago, his control ability has been assessed as unbalanced for the competitive meta of Season 51.
  • Nero — receives his second consecutive nerf. The first occurred in OB53 on April 8th. The Labubu — the creature from the Cold Mind ability — and the blocking zone of the Gel Wall should be reduced again.
  • Nikita — the submachine gun specialist enters the list for the first time. Her power level was considered too high for the start of the new ranked season.

Ray, Nero, and Nikita will be nerfed simultaneously on May 1st, 2026, with the restart of Season 51 of the Ranked Battle Royale in Free Fire. The exact technical values of the adjustments have not been disclosed by Garena at this time.

What else changes in Season 51 of the Battle Royale

In addition to the nerfs, the update brings three new random events within the Battle Royale. All will start on May 1st along with the restart of the season:

Event What changes
Start with a UMP All players start the match already equipped with a UMP — without needing to loot the weapon on the map.
Fury of Weapons Temporary buff event for weapons during the match, enhancing submachine guns and rifles.
Electrical Storm Expansion Modification in the safe zone with elements of electrical storm — increases pressure and pace of matches.

Why Ray's nerf is the most surprising

Ray joined Free Fire on April 8th, 2026 — less than a month ago. Receiving a nerf already in the first season change indicates that Garena quickly identified that the ability was above the acceptable level for the competitive environment. This case places Ray on the list of the most impactful and quickly adjusted newcomers in recent game history.

What to do before May 1st

If you rely on Ray, Nero, or Nikita in your current combo, today is the last day to use these characters at their current power level. Starting tomorrow, with the beginning of the Season 51, the meta will change — and those who don’t adapt their combo may feel it in the ranks.

It’s worth testing the UMP as an opening weapon in the first matches: the “Start with a UMP” event eliminates the dependency on initial loot and can completely change the dynamics of the first seconds of each match in the Battle Royale.
