The update of July 26, 2018 for Free Fire introduced the monster truck, Gloo Wall, the character Paloma, the bastão , and improvements to systems such as gifts, profiles, Luck Royale, and Elite Pass.
According to an official statement from Garena, players needed to update the app via the App Store or Google Play to access the new content.
July 2018 Update Arrived to Free Fire
The July 2018 update marked the arrival of the Gloo Wall and the monster truck, two elements that changed the way players approach Free Fire.
Monster truck arrived as an airdrop vehicle
The main highlight of the update was the monster truck. According to Garena, the vehicle appeared exclusively as an airdrop, meaning it was not a common vehicle scattered around the map.
Being large and robust, the monster truck expanded the possibilities for movement and created new combat situations involving vehicles.
- New feature: monster truck;
- Category: vehicle;
- Availability: exclusive to airdrop;
- Impact: increased vehicle presence in rotations and confrontations.
Gloo Wall was added to the game
Another historic point was the arrival of the Gloo Wall, referred to in the official statement as Gloo Wall. This item allowed players to instantaneously create a temporary wall for cover.
Over time, the Gloo Wall would become one of the most important resources in Free Fire, changing how players advance, protect themselves, and make decisions during gunfights.
- New item: Gloo Wall;
- Function: create temporary cover;
- Use: defense, advancement, and protection in combat;
- Historical importance: became one of the hallmarks of Free Fire gameplay.
Paloma joined the character roster

The update also added Paloma, described by Garena as an underworld arms dealer. She entered the roster during a time when Free Fire was still forming its classic base of characters.
Paloma would become one of the most remembered old characters in the game, especially for her connection to ammunition and armed combat.
Bastão arrived as a new melee weapon
Garena also added the bastão as a new melee weapon. In the earlier days of Free Fire, weapons of this type played a simpler role, but they helped diversify the variety of items found in matches.
The Bastão became part of the close-range weapon set used in emergency situations or at the start of matches.
Gifts and profiles were expanded
The update also brought social innovations. Players were able to send gifts to friends and guildmates.
Additionally, all survivors received an expanded profile page, allowing other players to inspect public information from their accounts.
- Gift sending to friends;
- Gift sending to guild members;
- Expanded player profile;
- Ability to inspect other players' profiles.
Comments in spectator mode
Another new feature was the ability to send commends to other players during spectator mode. The praises received began to be counted on the profile page.
This type of feature reinforced the social aspect of Free Fire, bringing together matches, guilds, and reputation among players.
Improvements to automatic collection and safe zone
Garena also implemented automatic collection for certain items, with an option to enable or disable the feature in settings.
The safe zone received an important change: the longer players remained outside the safe area, the more damage they would receive.
- Automatic collection added for certain items;
- Option to turn on or off automatic collection in settings;
- Safe zone adjusted to cause more damage the longer players stay outside it;
- HUD improvements for squad matches.
Monthly, weekly, and Elite Pass Bundle
The update revamped the monthly card, transforming the system into monthly and weekly subscriptions. According to Garena, players could maintain both at the same time.
An Elite Pass Bundle was also added, aimed at players wanting to upgrade to the Elite Pass and receive 50 emblems.
- Monthly card revamped;
- Weekly subscription added;
- Ability to have both monthly and weekly subscriptions at the same time;
- Elite Pass Bundle with 50 emblems.
Luck Royale received improvements
The Luck Royale was also adjusted. Garena added a luck quotient system to increase the chances of winning the grand prize.
Furthermore, winners of the main prize began to have their nicknames announced in-game.
Why was this update important?
The July 2018 update was significant because it introduced elements that would become part of Free Fire's identity. The biggest example is the Gloo Wall, which profoundly changed how players use cover in combat.
The monster truck, Paloma, gifts, expanded profiles, and social improvements also demonstrate how the game was evolving from a simple battle royale to a more complete system.
