Free Fire Update May 2023: main changes from the OB40 version
New features can now be tested on the new Advanced Server recently opened by the game developer
Garena is soon launching the long-awaited Free Fire May 2023 update for its users worldwide. Players are very excited to get their hands on new features like new modes, characters and other changes to the game. Before an official release, developers release an advanced server for the next update .
Now, Free Fire Mania exclusively brings the main changes that will be available for the next Free Fire update, scheduled to take place on May 31, 2023. The details below will be available in the OB40 version of Garena 's Battle Royale.

Free Fire Update May 2023: see what changes
New gel wall mechanic in Battle Royale matches
As of the next Free Fire update, players will meet the “ Creator of Ice ”. The novelty will be responsible for producing walls of ice.
Generally speaking, all players will start with this “ ice maker ” at level 1 right in their inventory and gel walls will be created every few seconds during the match.
Therefore, as of the new OB40 version of Free Fire , it will no longer be necessary to look for ice walls across the map. It is worth remembering that there is a storage limit and it is not possible to generate ice walls infinitely . Also, this device can be maxed up to level 5 and the higher the level, the faster ice will be generated.
To level up and generate ice fast with the new “ Icemaker ”, players must increase XP by performing the following actions during the match:
- XP is gained for every second survived (the more you survive, the more XP you earn);
- Each damage placed on the enemy, earns XP;
- Use an enhancement chip, thus increasing the weapon's level;
- Using the stomping gift also increases;
- Players who equip the “ Leg Backpack ” in the lobby, start the game with the “Icemaker” level 2
- Players will now only be able to collect 2 gel walls inside each loot after killing an enemy. If the enemy has been killed by other players, it is possible to collect only 1 ice.
Dual Skills Active in Contra Squad Matches
With the next Free Fire update in May 2023 , players will be able to equip two active skills on their character during CS (Contra Squad) matches. Therefore, it will be possible to test different combinations of skills, such as:
- Dimitri + Chrono
- Wukong + Tatsuya
- Tatsuya + Santino
- Alok + Tatsuya
- Chrono + Santino
Characters
With the new OB40 version of Garena 's Battle Royale, several character skills will be completely reworked, they are: Dimitri, Thiva, Olivia and Kapella .
In addition to the above skill reworks, four characters will see improvements: Andrew, Tatsuya, Skyler, and Evelyn . On the other hand, Homero, Iris, awakened Alvaro, Rafael and Hayato will be NERFed .
Finally, as previously reported, the new characters will be: Alok Desperado and Sônia .
Maps and Weapons
The new Free Fire May 2023 update will bring some adjustments to the bermuda map. Like new pixel possibilities, movement and new areas in Contra Squad (CS).
As for the MP40 weapons, Thompson and Bizon will receive a buff and will have increased damage. Also, MAG7 and Trogon will have a better experience with higher armor penetration.
Other changes
- Revitalized and cleaner lobby, with optimization to invite friends to play;
- Quick messages with both male and female voices that are very quick to equip (can be tested before using in a match);
- Now the way to notify that it is not ready will be faster.
- Achievements System : it will be possible to unlock unique achievements in the game and show everyone your accomplishments in the game and still get exclusive rewards.

Finally, the next Free Fire update takes place on May 31, 2023 . It is worth mentioning that Garena's Battle Royale servers will be interrupted and players are obliged to update the game to the new version: OB40.
