The June 2018 update of Free Fire brought back the Rush Hour mode, the arrival of the character Kla, the debut of weapon skins, and new survival options within matches.
According to an official statement from Garena published on June 20, 2018, players needed to update the app via the App Store or Google Play to access the new content.
June 2018 Update Arrived in Free Fire
The information was released by Garena on the international Free Fire website, in an official post titled New Update: New Map & Fire Pass, although the list of changes mainly highlighted the Rush Hour mode, Kla, the Lucky Roulette, and gameplay adjustments.
This update is part of Free Fire's early days, when official notes were still published as general updates and did not always follow the current OB naming convention used by players.
The June 2018 update reinforced the fast pace of Free Fire with Rush Hour, new skins, and adjustments to classic weapons.
Rush Hour Returned as a 20-Player Mode
The main highlight was the return of the Rush Hour mode. Garena described the mode as an intense combat experience for 20 players, with high-level weapons and equipment appearing as loot.
Additionally, the circle closed much faster, making matches shorter and more aggressive than the traditional Battle Royale.
- Mode: Rush Hour;
- Format: 20 players;
- Pace: circle closing faster;
- Loot: high-level weapons and equipment;
- Focus: fast combat and more intense matches.
Kla Arrived as New Character
The update also added Kla, introduced by Garena as a practitioner of Muay Thai. The character joined the roster at a time when Free Fire was still building its classic base of characters.
Due to his direct connection with close combat, Kla became one of the most remembered characters from the early days of the game, especially among players who followed the first updates.
Ability Slot System Added
Another important change was the ability slot system for characters. This new feature allowed players to add an extra ability to the character they were using.
This type of system was relevant for the evolution of Free Fire because it paved the way for more strategic combinations among characters, something that would become increasingly important in the following versions.
Lucky Roulette and Weapon Skins Debuted in the Update

Garena also added the Lucky Roulette, featuring a daily free spin and a chance to obtain permanent items.
Furthermore, the update marked the arrival of weapon skins, a feature that would become one of the pillars of customization in Free Fire over the years.
- Lucky Roulette: daily free spin;
- Prize mentioned: chance to win permanent items;
- Weapon skins: new customization options for firearms.
New Survival Features and Map
The update also brought features aimed at the dynamics of matches. Among them were the destructible oil barrels and the new survival loadout called Resupply Map.
With the Resupply Map, players could locate a marked point on the map to seek additional loot during the match.
- Destructible oil barrels;
- New survival loadout: Resupply Map;
- Marked resupply point on the map;
- New minigame on the waiting island;
- Death Race became available only in Purgatory on weekends.
Adjustments in Purgatory, Weapons, and HUD
Garena also listed important fixes and improvements for weapons, maps, and the combat interface.
- More loot points added in Purgatory;
- Flight path of the plane became more random;
- G18 became a burst-fire pistol;
- MP40 received more recoil and accepted grips;
- M249 received increased damage and range;
- VSS saw a slight damage increase;
- New HUD indicator when receiving damage;
- New HUD indicator when teammates are knocked down;
- Support added for large screen Android devices;
- New button in the parachute phase to dive forward automatically.
Why Was This Update Important?
The June 2018 update was significant because it showcased Free Fire expanding in three areas simultaneously: fast modes, customization, and strategic depth of characters.
The return of Rush Hour reinforced shorter and more aggressive matches, while weapon skins, the Lucky Roulette, and ability slots indicated systems that would become central in the future of the game.
This record also helps to organize the history of Free Fire versions, especially since the early updates were published by Garena as general notes, without the current standard of major OB notes.
