Free Fire Update: character Miguel and revamped maps

The September 2018 update of Free Fire introduced the character Miguel, adjustments in Bermuda and Purgatory, the arrival of Solo Death Race, and new exchange and offer systems within the game.

According to an official statement from Garena published on September 12, 2018, players needed to update the app via the App Store or Google Play to access the new content.

The information was announced by Garena on the international Free Fire website, in an official publication titled NEW UPDATE: NEW CHARACTER, NEW VEHICLE, NEW WEAPON.

This update is part of the early days of Free Fire when official notes were still published as general updates and did not always follow the current OB naming convention used by players.

The September 2018 update marked the arrival of Miguel and brought important adjustments to the maps Bermuda and Purgatory.

Bermuda and Purgatory were revamped

The main highlight of the update was the revamp of the Bermuda and Purgatory maps. According to Garena, the airport area in Bermuda was reworked.

In addition, loot distribution and structures were optimized on both maps, aiming to improve the pace of matches and the search for equipment.

Miguel arrived as a new character

Miguel would become one of the classic characters in Free Fire and became part of the character lineup launched during the initial growth of Garena’s battle royale.

Solo Death Race was added

Another point mentioned by Garena was the arrival of Solo Death Race. This mode expanded the concept of Death Race, previously associated with vehicle competitions, into an individual experience.

This novelty reinforced Garena's pursuit of faster and varied alternative modes, beyond the traditional Battle Royale.

Special offers began to appear after matches

The update also added special offers. According to Garena, a limited-time promotional box could randomly appear after a match.

These offers could include significant discounts on items that might interest the player.

Token exchange store entered the game

Another important novelty was the token exchange store. Garena explained that tokens and stars would be granted when a player received duplicate items.

The stars could also be randomly obtained by completing matches, creating an additional way of progression and exchange for rewards.

Loadout cards were added

The update also brought loadout cards. According to Garena, these cards allowed players to use loadouts indefinitely for a specified period.

This system was part of the evolution of pre-match preparation resources, giving players more options to enter the game with specific advantages.

Campfire, Gel Grenade, and Scanner received improvements

The list of improvements also brought adjustments to important survival items.

• Campfire: now restores HP and EP at a rate of 10 per second for the player and allies;
• Gel Grenade: now protects the user from more angles;
• Scanner: now shows the plane's route even after the player jumps;
• Interface: improvements in the vault, events, and announcement pages;
• Badges: players with more badges are now announced during matches.
