As of Season 31, there has been a significant change to how Rank Points are calculated in Ranked Battle Royale matches. The developers listened to player feedback, and rank-up improvements were applied to enhance the experience for Master ranks and above. Read on to learn why the ranked system improvements were made and how they were implemented.

Why Free Fire changed the ranked and rank system

The journey from Bronze to Master is often seamless and satisfying for players who make good use of skills and strategies. Upon reaching Master rank, however, the challenge level undergoes an abrupt increase. This happened because, previously, the Master rank selected the highest level players, who were able not only to survive until the end, but to do so with a high kill count. This means that only one type of player can continue to rise through the ranks once reaching Master : the type that gets a lot of kills and stays in the top positions of matches.

While the initial intention was to ensure that players in the Master rank performed well on both kills and survivability, this ended up causing issues such as:

  • 1. Low rank points and even reduced rank points of players who survived long but had few kills;
  • 2. Low rank points and even reduction of rank points of players who made a lot of kills but survived a short time;
  • 3. Obtaining points depended heavily on completing daily missions, transforming the experience into a repetitive process;
  • 4. Little recognition of rank progression from Master and Elite players.

During the upcoming season, the developers believe that changes to the rank scoring formula will bring improvements to raise ranks above Master according to one's game level. We hope to have more improvements in the future, meanwhile we will stick to the changes made in the current season.

Below are some examples to better understand the Rank Points calculation changes:

For Master or above (team)

  • Booyah + kill 1 opponent: 10~25 rank points → 15~35 rank points
  • Booyah + kill 10 opponents: 25~50 rank points → 30~60 rank points
  • #10 + kill 1 opponent: -35~-15 rank points → -20~-10 rank points
  • #10 + kill 10 opponents: -15~10 rank points → -5~15 rank points

Changes coming in the future

In addition to the above changes, Free Fire developers hope to bring an improved patent experience to everyone. Players may be closer to reaching the Elite than you think!

In the future, those responsible for Free Fire want to make more improvements to other features of the patent system such as the interface, missions and patent tokens. For Ranked CS mode, we are also working on increasing rank protection points for players who do well in matches. Another change on the way is the improved calculation of Rank Points in games played on maps other than Bermuda .
